June 21 – The Warren Tribune Chronicle did an article on the Warren AA Baseball League in the June 21st edition of the paper.  Many photos and quotes from Metro Ice Brewers players were included.  Click the following links to see the articles:  ONLINEPDF Scan - PHOTOS

June 20 - The Metro Ice Brewers defeated the New Hamburg hounds by a score of 10-0.  Joe Hardy was credited with a complete game shutout.  The offense came alive with highlights such as Wes Wiltrout hit his first career double, 15 year old Kevin Chirozzi’s first career hit, and a solo home run blast by Mike Swoboda.  Next up for the Ice Brewers is the Mahoning Valley Knights Tuesday at 6:00 PM.

June 16 - Richard Benchia’s complete game shutout vs the PI&I Express vaulted the Ice Brewers into 4th place.  With a final of 6-0, the Ice Brewers ended their brief losing streak.  Paul Logar hit a solo home run in the 6th inning.

In other news, the Ice/Brewers protested their most recent loss to the Andover Angels.  The Ice/Brewers protested based on rule 4.12 of the MLB Umpires Manual which basically states that an umpire can not penalize a runner due to the umpire’s original error.  As that would have created a scenario where the Ice/Brewers could win the game, a potential resumption of the game could take place.

Regarding the game with the Knights, that game will be resumed at the top of the 5th inning with the Ice/Brewers leading 3-2.  This was a result of a runaway truck running into the 3rd base dugout, injuring a number of Knights players.

The Ice/Brewers next game is Firday, June 18th vs. the Champion Marlins.  Rookie Matt Schultz is the scheduled starter.

June 4, 2010 - A make up game has been scheduled with PI&I on Thursday, June 10th at 8:00 PM.  Please make sure you add this to your schedule!

June 2, 2010Richard Benchia pitched a beauty, but the Ice Brewers offense let him down in a big way, only managing 2 hits.  Benchia went the distance only giving up 5 hits.  Next on deck for the Ice Brewers is a rematch with the Champion Marlins, Sunday at 6:00 PM

May 26, 2010 – Opening Day is finally upon us!  Today is the start of Metro Ice’s 10th season as members of the Warren AA Baseball League.  As many of you know, Metro Ice and the Brewers from the 2009 season joined forces.  Matt Vadas and Joe Chirozzi have taken the talent from both teams in hopes of being more competitive for the upcoming season.  The season basically started this winter, where League Vice President Matt Vadas resigned his officer position in the league and he nominated Joe Chirozzi to be his replacement.  Joe was voted in unanimously!  When you see Joe, make sure you congratulate him!  Joe, it is well deserved!  His love of the game and the league is clearly evident!  Congratulations!

Tonight’s pitching matchup is Richard Benchia vs. former Ice player Jeremy Krol.  It should be a good one!  Hope to see everyone down at Packard Park this evening.  First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 PM!  Go Ice!
